About James Mackay

Real estate has always been a passion and helping clients achieve their property goals is something I genuinely enjoy. With a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Valuation and Property Management, completion of the Real Estate Institute sales course, and extensive local knowledge of the Golden Bay area, I bring a combination of professional expertise, practical experience, and a down-to-earth approach to every client relationship.

Having joined First National Golden Bay in 2009 and become a partner in 2012, I've developed a strong understanding of all aspects of the real estate industry. Since April 2019, I've been proud to serve as the Principal and Licensed Agent of the company. In 2025, I was honoured to be elected to the Board of the First National Real Estate Network, allowing me to contribute to the future direction of the network while continuing to represent the interests of our local community.

While I have a particular interest in rural and lifestyle properties, I enjoy working across all sectors of the market and helping clients navigate every stage of their property journey.

Outside of real estate, I'm an active member of the local community. I've served with the Golden Bay Volunteer Fire Brigade for more than 17 years and recently stepped into the role of Chief Fire Officer. My fiancée and I also share-milk a 300-cow dairy farm in Tākaka, so there's never a shortage of work if it's a quiet day in the office.

When time allows, you'll usually find me on the golf course or out enjoying everything Golden Bay has to offer, whether that's fishing or diving.
